Alternative Grunge
The rebirth of Grunge in the modern age, Alternative Grunge is now resurging from the ashes in the city of Philadelphia, PA, USA.
The new music scene was officially launched in April 2010 by two
Philadelphia-based bands: A Crucifying Feeling and SoulsilenS.
Grunge
was born in Seattle, but no other city may have embraced it as
lovingly (or as permanently) as Philadelphia.
WMMR was one of the
first stations to promote Pearl Jam, and its listeners continue their
love for the pioneering band today.
Historic acts like Alice in Chains
look forward to sold-out shows for their tours here.
For every action there's a reaction: The action of Seattle Grunge
impacting music history in international proportions, influencing
artists
throughout the world, resulted in the reaction of Philadelphia
Alternative Grunge, where A Crucifying Feeling, led by Paris
Kalamaras,
brings a Greek seasoning, and SoulsilenS, lead by Andrei
SoulsilenS, adds a Brazilian heat to it. Other musicians in the two
bands,
who have Philadelphia roots and have spent time in other parts
of the country and world, bring diverse musical backgrounds ranging
from hardcore to classical to a new interpretation of the historic
grunge sound.
As a co-founder of Alternative Grunge and an experienced
multi-instrumentalist, SoulsilenS began his search for new
bandmates
who share the SoulsilenS ethos of passion, love, and respect for the
raw power of Grunge in late 2009.
In bassist TrE and drummer Mike
Mongiello, SoulsilenS found musicians who, like him, appreciate a
unique sound
infused with Brazilian popular music, the Classical
tradition, and all eras of rock. Today, SoulsilenS and his thousands
of fans around the world live boldly and without fear, and love and
laugh as freely as they are passionate about creating
and enjoying
infectious, emotion-driven music.
Alternative Grunge co-founder Kalamaras also established his fanbase
in Philadelphia, combining sensitive lyrics
with an original blend of
Grunge and melodic rock. Kalamaras left his native Greece for the
United States in 2002 and, by 2004,
he had established A Crucifying
Feeling. Now rounded out by multitalented bassist, guitarist, singer,
and lyricist Jarod Kulp,
and experienced drummer Nick Mavromanolis, A
Crucifying Feeling continues to attract new attention, inspire loyal
fans, and generate excitement, and the band is planning to release its
debut LP, "From Dust To Life," later this year.
2010 is the year of Alternative Grunge, and the city of Philadelphia
welcomes all music lovers around the planet to join the scene.
Perhaps
no other city is better situated to re-launch a new take on one of the
most honest and lasting genres of rock in history.
